Athlete Figure Skating Code of Conduct
Skaters must be courteous at all times to everyone, including their fellow skaters and parents both on and off the ice in accordance with Skate Canada's Code of Ethics
Skate Canada Code of Ethics
General Conduct
- Skaters are expected to demonstrate respect and sportsmanship towards their fellow skaters, coaches, officials, parents, and the general public at all times.
- Skaters are expected to follow the directions of coaches, arena staff, and Crowfoot Skating Club members during club sessions or club events.
- Skaters will not harass, speak negatively about, or abuse fellow skaters, coaches, officials, or parents at any time.
- A Board Member or Coach has the authority to remove any skater from the ice for non- compliance with this Code of Conduct or for non-payment of fees.
- If a coach has a concern about a skater, they may ask the skater to leave the ice for the remainder of the session, and skaters must leave the ice immediately. Other concerns or complaints must be submitted in writing to the Board and will be reviewed by the Crowfoot Skating Club Board in a "Committee of the Whole" (closed session).
On-Ice Etiquette & Safety
- Skaters in a lesson or performing their solo to music have the right of way.
- Regardless of priority, safety must come first. Both skaters must stop before a collision.
- Spins should be performed in the center of the ice; jumps should be executed at the corners. Skaters should not linger in these areas.
- Skaters must always be aware, cautious, and considerate of everyone on the ice.
- Within each session, there are various skating levels sharing the same ice. Skaters must respect all participants.
- Skaters must keep moving at all times while on the ice and must get up promptly after a fall to keep pathways clear.
- Attention must be paid to the position of other skaters and coaches to ensure safety.
Prohibited Behavior
- Foul language, yelling, abusive or aggressive behavior, including kicking, picking holes in the ice, and intentionally making "snow"; is strictly prohibited.
- All skaters, including guest skaters, must skate in the session for which they are qualified.
- Skaters are expected to participate in group stroking sessions unless receiving a private lesson.
- Skaters should not leave the ice surface during a session unless absolutely necessary and should obtain a coach's permission before doing so.
- Skaters must clear the ice promptly at the end of each session.
- Pushing, tripping, horseplay, tag, racing, or intentional interference with other skaters is not permitted.
Digital & Social Media Conduct
- Skaters must conduct themselves professionally in all interactions surrounding Skate Canada activities.
- Bullying, harassment, discrimination, physical or verbal abuse, neglect, intimidation, or exploitation in any form will not be tolerated.
- Technology and social media must not be used to disrespect or exploit others.
Disciplinary Actions
The Crowfoot Skating Club Board will only commence disciplinary action upon receiving a written letter of complaint outlining a violation of the Code of Ethics. The Board will review the complaint in a "Committee of the Whole" session. If a parent is a member of the CSC Board, they must excuse themselves from any disciplinary review involving their skater.
Progressive Disciplinary Actions:
- 1st Offence: Verbal warning by the skater’s coach or the Crowfoot Skating Club Board. If the skater is under the age of majority, their parent/guardian will be informed.
- 2nd Offence: Written letter from the Crowfoot Skating Club Board addressed to the skater and parent/guardian detailing the violation.
- 3rd Offence: Suspension from all club programs for one week without compensation, including competitions and test days. Written complaints related to misconduct by spectators, parents, or guardians may result in suspension from the arena.
- 4th Offence: The skater may be asked to leave the club at the Board’s discretion. In the case of a serious breach of ethics, the skater may be immediately suspended at the Board’s discretion.
In cases of suspension or expulsion, no refunds of any kind will be granted.
